Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why does Evans inventory some items as "bulk"?
  2. Why is a 2-day estimate important?
  3. Why doesn’t Evans do on-site inventories?
  4. The garments always look so professionally finished. How does Evans do this?

Why does Evans inventory some items as "bulk"?   top
Many items processed require finishing after cleaning. This removes wrinkles and shapes the item to improve appearance for wearing.

Other items do not require finishing. These items are inventoried and sorted, then cleaned and dried, inspected and boxed before being returned. Because of the savings in labor by not finishing these items we are able to provide the same level of smoke and odor removal, yet charge less for these items.

Therefore, we weigh these items and charge by the pound for cleaning. These items are referred to as Bulk. These items include:

  • Socks and undergarments
  • Pillow cases and sheets
  • Towels and washcloths

Why is a 2-day estimate important?   top
With our computerized bar code tagging system we are able to accurately inventory jobs in as little as a few hours. This method is much more accurate than an on-site inventory which only provides general categories of items.

Our 2-day estimate provides a not to exceed maximum cleaning cost, allowing for adjusters to accurately set reserves. (Actual cost may be less because if we not able to restore the item to pre-loss condition, there is no charge for that item.)

Why doesn’t Evans do on-site inventories?   top
Evans always performs an inventory of your policyholders’ garments, textiles and soft goods in the controlled conditions of our state-of-the-art cleaning plant.

That’s because a burned out house or the front lawn is no place to begin caring for your policyholder’s belongings. From the moment we arrive on the scene, all items are bagged and tagged and then transported to our facility.

Then, every item is identified with our exclusive bar-coded garment tag and a complete inventory performed. The inventory and the not to exceed restoration estimate is provided within 48 hours of pack out.

Most restoration dry cleaners charge extra for on-site inventories. Not only do we feel that on-site inventories are inaccurate but we would never think of charging our customers extra for an inventory!

The garments always look so professionally finished. How does Evans do this?    top
Tensioning equipment was developed in the 1970’s for the garment manufacturing industry in Europe and was introduced in the United States in the 1990’s. This equipment was designed to tension fabric three-dimensionally and shape the garment, making it a perfect match for the dry cleaning industry.

After seeing the benefits of European finishing, Evans chose this new technology for all of their plants.

This equipment is extremely effective in removing wrinkles and is easy to train on and operate. There are many other benefits too:

  • No hot-head presses
  • Easier to climate control plants (Air-Condition)
  • Uses 30% less utilities (gas and electric)
  • Easy to train non-experienced finishers
  • Produces a higher quality garment than conventional methods
  • No seam or pocket impressions
  • Crisp, sharp creases
  • Increased productivity requires less labor, which lowers costs
